Why on earth did they make it so hard or impossible to import your own favorites file on the new AOL 10.1. I've had my favorites file forever & just keep adding to it & it get's re-import it again & again as I change or rebuild the AOL software. But now it seems to be impossible. As far as I'm concerned the ' My favorites feature' & auto suggesting e-mail addresses feature's are the most important features AOL has going & the most important reason I have for using AOL! It makes it easy to get to an address quickly without typing it. Now they've decided to make it impossible to import your preexisting file, What!. It's the most idiotic thing I've ever heard of, making you're favorites hard to impossible to upload. I can't believe it's not even easier to do now & to set up & use now. All the Favorites that you've compiled & maintained it should be obvious you'd need that & it should be easy. I feel particularly insulted because I've waist-ed a lot of time trying to figure it out to do it & I know they must know what they've done & they probably have an ulterior motive for it! What other reason or why else would they screw that up. It's like their taking their best thing, which AOL's got going & removed & reneged on it. You'd think they would want to keep customers not loose them! So AOL, I hope you're listening. I've been a member for 15 years & I think when I speak I it means something & I've been around the world & thru everything with AOL both good & bad for 15 years & I believe I'm right about the 'Favorites Heart Tool' being the single most important feature AOL has ever had going & this new 'Favorites Places Import Problem' makes AOL very close to being worthless when you take that away. Who ever it was that designed this new version making it impossible to import Favorites, instead of making it 'easier than ever', should be FIRED Immediately, if not sooner & I hope He or She will be. In the mean time if there's anyone who knows a way to do this that can explain it to me in plain English, that's' how do I import my favorites file into this new AOL version 10.1, if that's even possible, Apparently AOL could care less if you figure it out, even there explanations on how to do it don't work, what, are they laughing at us, is it a game ??? , but I would appreciate if someone has it figured it out, if you could let me know. Thank You, [email protected]

WOW! AOL big props!
You have to use it to fully understand. AOL is the best All in One client! Congrats AOL on the AOL Desktop for Windows :) Mac's version is great as well. The Windows version to me now is way better and more customizable.

As an all in one option it's not bad for AOL users to step out of the usual AOL program format.
The only thing that would make it better for the AOL users is to import favorites from an AOL PFC file. The online favorites never totally load because I have over a thousand plus. I'm a genealogist & I need all my favorites available to me & The AOL desktop doesn't meet my needs for using my favorites. I've told them this in AOL beta feedback & got an odd answer from one of the team as to why import from a PFC even after I stated my need for it. After trying to import my AOL favorites 5 times it stopped giving me the unable to import message & did it. Everything else about the program is fine (for aol users on broadband it's fine).. Oh, one more thing, the fonts in email are limited even though I have a ton of fonts on my system.

Openride was a horror. Uninstalled that beast immediately. Desktop is definately better on the systems resources. I like having my Gmail account in there as well. If I could only read my AOL mail in the damn thing. Disappointed by AOL once again. If I could get an answer on how to fix that problem I would use it. I'll stick to Gmail for now.

AOL refuses to die as long as they still have a revenue stream from all the adware noobs are willing to tolerate for all the pretty eye candy. AIM is a prime example.
AOL 9.0 still refuses to uninstall completely from a friend's PC.
I reiterate: AOL has always been spam central and is known for its deceptive business practices:
----------------------------------------------
How many products do you know of that 'uninstall completely'? And a 'friend's PC'? Give me a break. How's about your PC? Spam central? You'll get spam from other ISP's too. Set your filters up properly, don't go to suspicious sites and you'll get little or no Spam. Deceptive business practices? Yep, in the past, no doubt about that. Nowadays though and for a few years now, no. I'm betting that like many who slam AOL, like you for instance, you haven't even tried the AOL products you talk about.

You've got to be kidding me right? This is the worst peice of junk software I have ever had the misfortune of using. Who wants to have email IMs and web browser open simultaneously? If I want my buddy list open, I will open it..Sorry AOL but you've had your day in the sun. its time to move on and let someone else be the top dog.
------------------------------------------------
Nope, they're not kidding. Lots of folks like software like this where items are open simultaneously. Don't want to open something, then don't, but you and others have the option. AOL has not had its day in the sun; not yet, anyway, and they're not going to move on, so get used to them being here. I rate the AOL Desktop at a 4 because it still has some work to be done before it's completely ready for prime time.

AOL's doing a great job catching up. To call this program a program for only 'newbies' or people who don't know much about computers is false. I've used PCs and Macs for years and this program is amazing because I don't have to open a mail program, then a IM program, then a web browser and then have to deal with all that cluttering up my desktop. All I need to do is open this program and click the icons within the program and I'm where I want to be. It simples things rather than opening each app. individually and taking up space. For example: if you want to check the sports scores and check your e-mail. Open the program, click the Mail icon then click the Sports icon. Newbies to the web will love how easy it is to get from place to place and experienced people will appreciate the fact of getting from one area to the next without loads of clutter on your desktop and the need to not have to open multiple programs to get to where or what you want.
On a side note: I honestly don't see why people are allowed to 'Review' a product without even trying it. A review is supposed to help people decide whether they want it and all I see is people bashing AOL for the past history and past apps. I appreciate those who do 'real' reviews rather than just come on here and bash the company and call it a 'review' then accuse those who like the product of 'working for AOL' or whatever company they don't like. I love this site, but I find it very difficult to really want to read the reviews here, if it is all non-sense.

Actually, there may one day be a need for this product in the future-- assuming it's done right-- as AOL is going down a better path:
bundled voip, improved portal, improved entertainment offerings.. they still have a ways to go, but they're improving as time transpires.
All in all, if i was running them, i would just partner up with Google-- much faster and cost-effective to achieve their goals alongside them.

I cant believe AOL is still releasing this stuff..Of course I fail to see why anyone still uses it as a primary ISP. They never got it right nor will they ever. I guess it's freedom of choice.far be it from me to say anything to folks who feel they must use AOL to access the net. (I threw my security blanket away when I grew up.) sorry that slipped out
