1. Default Signature in iPhone
You can add as many as email accounts in your iPhone Mail app. Your iPhone will add “Sent from my iPhone” as a default signature whenever you create, reply or forward an email.
This will show the receiver that you are sending or responding email from handheld iPhone. This is a good practice to indicate that there could be spelling and grammar mistakes as it is not convenient to type lengthy emails on phone keyboard.
However it is not the situation anymore. Your iPhone will automatically check for spellings and auto correct in most cases. You can also use the suggestions to quickly pickup the correct word instead of typing it fully. It is good to remove the default “Sent from my iPhone” signature and add your custom signature to send formal emails to clients or colleagues.
2. Change Default Signature
Follow the steps outlined below to change the default signature and add your custom signature on your iPhone.
- Tap the “Settings” icon on the home screen to go to settings page on your phone.
- On the settings page, scroll down to view the list of Apple apps you have on your phone. Find “Mail” app and tap on it. This option is available just below the “Passwords & Accounts” option.
- Alternatively, you can swipe the screen down to view the search box on top. Type “mail” to filter the results and tap on “Mail” with envelope icon.

3. Setup Common Signature for All Email Accounts
In this case tap on “All Accounts” option to enable it. You should see a tick mark at the right end when you tap on it. iPhone now will show only one text box for entering your signature.

4. Setup Different Signature for Different Email Accounts
You may have separate personal and official email accounts and wanted to use separate signatures for these two emails. In this case first ensure to add all your email accounts to the Mail app.

5. Checking the Signature
It is a good practice to check how your signature looks like on the emails. Tap on the “Mail” app and open the email account. Tap on “Compose” button on lower right corner. You will see the updated signature is automatically added in your email.

For older iOS devices, the mail settings are merged with Contact and Calendar. In other words, you have to tap Mail, Contact, Calendar on the Settings page to access the Signature.
